What is Uningrained?

Uningrained is a documentary-style podcast that investigates cultural blind spots, invisible ideas and hidden assumptions. Each season looks at a different aspect of life that’s so ingrained, it’s hard to imagine things any other way. During the first season, airing in Summer 2026, the ingrained idea is that softball is baseball for girls—rather than baseball itself.

About Steve Hendershot

Uningrained host Steve Hendershot is an award-winning journalist and podcast host known for colorful, in-depth storytelling that makes complex topics accessible and entertaining.

Adventure-mode Journalism

Uningrained investigates its stories by drawing on dozens of interviews, extensive on-site reporting, and hundreds of hours of research. Each handcrafted episode features high-gloss production and sound design throughout.

Format

Uningrained episodes are scripted documentary-style, featuring the narration of host Steve Hendershot as well as insights from the dozens of guests interviewed each season. Each episode is about half an hour long. Each season’s story is told over the course of about 10 episodes, released every two weeks.

Uningrained’s scripted, journalistic format makes it similar to podcasts such as 99% Invisible, Acquired and Revisionist History.

Expanded Universe

In addition to Uningrained’s primary episodes, the show’s expanded universe on YouTube and Substack includes extended interviews, video content and regular emails.
